"Pikes Peak Through The Garden of
the Gods"

18" x 26" - Pastel on Paper - 2006

Being a hopeless romantic can be painful.
I don't drive much, but a woman can make
me drive to the moon to see her.  This
woman I adored made me drive from
Cheyenne Canyon, where I live, thirty five
minutes away to Queen's Canyon, where
she lives.  I did it gladly, just to snuggle with
her and rub her feet and admire those
gorgeous blue eyes.  What a sucker I am,
and hopeless is only the least of it.
When you drive between those two homes, you pass this view, this famous scene of the massif Pikes Peak, through the
sanded spires of The Garden of the Gods Gateway.  Its a beautiful sight, changing every five minutes as the clouds
change, the light changes and the sky races over the top of the peaks.  It didn't take too long for me to stop and begin
this pastel.  And I stopped again, and again, and finally it was done.  I've looked at this view for over forty years, but a
romantic only remembers the blue eyes at the end of the drive.  This time.
